Cool Bone
This unique band can perform a number of musical styles at any time. Its mission is to add to the world of music by inspiring the general public to become more aware of New Orleans' great music and in appreciating "the arts" in general. The organizational makeup empowers us to succeed in this mission. The instrumentation includes: two saxophonists, a trombonist, a trumpeter, a brass player/keyboardist, a tuba player, a lead brass player/vocalist, a snare drummer, a bass drummer and sometimes guitar players and a parade grand marshall.
Swing
In the likeness' of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson and Louis Armstrong, this style allows one to develop an appreciation for the swing era of jazz. With our very own arrangements, we really bring forth the evolution that has always mesmerized the entire world. This is a medium-paced, smoothly energetic improvisational musical style that clearly displays the instrumental proficiency level of the musicians. The originals and standards are truly enlightening for the art lover and jazz listener.
Marching Brass Band
This all-acoustic style provides the classic New Orleans' traditional jazz standards, traditional gospel, and what's known as New Orleans' street second-line. This is the band that brings the streets to the stage and the stage to the streets.
Hip Hop Jazz
Coined as "Brass Hop", a fusion of the brass band culture with the pop and hip hop cultures of the world. The incarnation of this style landed the group a national recording deal with Walt Disney's Hollywood Records, coupled with a booking agency deal with the William Morris Booking Agency (with agent Cara Lewis). The band also found itself on the likes of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered", featured artists on the Tom Joyner Morning Sky Show, featured artists for Showtime at the Apollo a couple of times, was selected to perform for the NAACP Image Awards 31st Anniversary, and was voted #8 in the world for best new artist by Billboard's Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Timothy White.
The band's precision and stage charisma provided for tours with Wyclef Jean,
David Byrne, Ben Harper, Spearhead, and Camp Lo. Also, included were shows
with Busta Rhymes, the Average White Band, War, Ziggy & Steven Marley,
the Roots, the Counting Crows, Common, the Gap Band, De La Soul, Better Than
Ezra, Lauryn Hill, Goodie Mob, Cowboy Mouth, Chico Debarge, George Clinton & the
P-Funk Allstars, Peabo Bryson, DJ Guru, B. B. King, and James Brown. Remixes
of Coolbone's music have been produced by Wyclef Jean, DJ Guru, K-Solo, DJ
Smash, and Lunar Deep. Coolbone has also produced horn sectional remixes
for groups such as Cypress Hill, and members have recorded with alternative
bands such as the Counting Crows.
